Home Visits

Before arriving here we were cautioned that this place is heavily soaked in spiritual warfare. We have spent much time in prayer and interceding that the peoples hearts soften and are open to the movement of the spirit. The words that have been replaying in my mind are “the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”.
Yesterday we went out in groups of about four to visit homes and begin relationships. The second house our group went to a woman was outside washing clothes in the “pila” and I asked her if she would teach the eager “gringas” how it’s done.  She and her daughter were open and very welcoming. While she taught Hillary, Meg, and the pastor’s daughter to wash Tabitha and I went inside the one room house.  Tab immediately connected with the three little boys and the whole time we were there the house was filled with continuous laughter.  I had the opportunity to fold and put away clothes with the daughter Tamara and have sweet conversation. I feel in my spirit that God is opening doors with Tamara and her mother Liliam for good fellowship.

I was surprised that once we left the pastors daughter told me that she noticed things around their home that indicate witchcraft, things that an American like myself would never notice. Although the women are not witches, superstition is a way of life here and uncomfortably common.

This was a moment of awakening for me that what we are going to be doing here is a lot of spiritual warfare. This country is soaked in darkness and its greatest need is prayer.
God is opening doors and softening hearts right now. Even in a place this dark God is still good. He is a good provider and he takes care of his children.
