Opening New Doors

The past few weeks here in Guatemala I can not even fully explain. It is a more of a different experience then I ever thought. God has been opening my eyes in many different ways, one being through the children´s hospital here in Puerto Barrios. Honestly, my whole life I have been intiminated by hospitals and had no desire to even attend one. So the other week our whole team went to the hospital, which was unlike one I have ever seen in the States. It was there, when I realized how sanitary and safe the hospital in the States really are. We are blessed there and most of us do not even realize it until we step into a third world hospital. There in the children´s hospital, a few of us entered the intensive care unit where the premature babies were kept. It was so sad to see these blessed Children of God, struggling to survive by tubes. What made it worse was I knew that maybe if these babies were in the US, they could be able to have a better chance to survive. Some of the parents of these babies can only look at them because they are to little and fragile to hold.

In the back of the intensive care unit, there was a smaller, hidden room in the corner. There was a small crib placed in it with a boy who had just gotten hit by a car a couple hours before we got there. He seemed unconsious, but was still somewhat consious. You could tell he was in pain becease there was still blood everywhere and he was not even bandaged up all the way. He had a cast on his leg, which was broken, and a rather large bandage around his head. I do not remember his name, but he was wimpering and when his mom entered the room, you could tell the grief in her eyes for her son. This whole situation broke my heart more then I thought it ever could. A few of us got to pray with this woman and her son and you could see her eyes light up at the end after we prayed. You could tell that even through the whole event this mother had a glimpse of hope in her eyes, that God would protect her son. So a few days later when we went back to the hospital it was amazing to see that this boy had the bandage from his head removed and he was slowly but, surely getting better.

God has definatly opened my eyes on this trip to events that I would never thought I would experince. He has made it clear to me how powerful prayer really can be and to trust in Him fully. I still know that I have no desire to go into the medical field, but it was still mind'boggling to see what goes on in it.
