Reflections

In less than two days I will be leaving Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to start my journey home. My two months is almost over. Part of me is excited and ready to go home, the other part of me is not ready to leave all the wonderful people I have met. I have learned so much here in Guatemala, about myself, about God, and about random other things. It would take days to share everything I have learned (and a longer blog post than anyone wants to read), so I am going to share just a few things that Guatemala has taught me and a few things that God has taught me.      Things I have learned...

Finding A Family

When preparing to leave for Guatemala, I also prepared my heart to be away from my family for two months. I talk with my mother and father every day, and they are a huge part of my life. Preparing to leave, meant that I would be without my family. The thought was, ït’s okay, I have God and he’s enough.”This is true, but he had something so much bigger planned.  I expected my team to be close, and for us to know eachother well, but the amount of love we share shocked me. These people I met three weeks ago are my confidants, my shoulders to cry on, the people...

It Wasn’t Me

As a team, we have individually been reading through John and discussing one chapter each morning at breakfast. Yesterday as we were discussing John 7, we noticed something interesting.   “Jesus answered, ‘My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.’” 7:16   “… I am not here on my own authority. He who sent me, however, is truthful.” 7:28   Jesus was continually pointing back to God the Father. As He is an equal part of the Trinity, He could have easily and rightfully accepted the glory for Himself. However, that...

I Knew This Would Happen ;; Emerson

It seems that every time I go on a missions trip or every summer at camp, one kids grabs a hold of my heart. Being here for three months, I knew it was bound to happen here, just like it has in the past. Gabby, Colten, Zoe, and Hyatt are a few of the kids who grabbed my heart and still have it. I think about those kiddos regularly and how bizarre it is these pint sized people consume my thoughts and my prayers often.    I love that Jesus uses children to show me his magnitude and glory.    The first time we headed to the Cerebral Palsy hospital...

The Guate AIM Base

A few weeks ago, our team had the honor of having breakfast for dinner at the AIM base here in Antigua. I was expecting our time there to be enjoyable because…well, we were having breakfast for dinner. That’s always enjoyable. Noe picked us up from our hostel and we rode in the back of his pick up truck to a beautiful house a few miles away from our home. As we walked in the house, we were instantly greeted by friendly faces and fresh fruit. The team at the base welcomed us in like we were family. I had no idea that by the end of the night, I would actually be calling them family....

Stop, Breathe, and Listen

The past month our ministry has been to help at a cerebral palsy hospital a few days a week. This hospital houses over 75 wheelchair-bound sufferers whose ages range from two to 35. We help with the daily tasks which include: chopping vegetables for their one meal of mush, spoon feeding them their mush, changing them, bathing them, folding mass amounts of daily laundry, and most importantly loving on them (talking, playing, holding). By working there God has softened my heart an incredible amount. He has shown me how to love unconditionally and made me appreciate all...
