Still Trying to Get There

By this time tomorrow, I’ll be in another country. I still can’t wrap my mind around that. Training camp has been pretty crazy, but I feel like our team has meshed together really well. The first day in Atlanta, after riding the Marta, we arrived in a place called the SafeHouse. They’re an organization that provides ministries for the homeless and that’s where we would be sleeping for the first night. Late that night, we were given the opportunity to go out onto the streets and just talk to people. We walked a little ways and found there was a little bit of a party going on in the streets of Atlanta. Dragon Con was in town, a convention where people from all over the county came and got dressed up and their favorite Sci-fi characters. As weird as it was, God actually used that to make initiating conversations a whole lot easier.
There was one lady we got to talk to, Debbie, who wasn’t there for the convention. Instead, she was trying to sleep in the park. She was from Ohio where her family owned a big farm with horses and other animals.  A few weeks ago, she got on a bus somehow ending up in Atlanta. She wouldn’t tell us why but we did get to pray with her for a job.  It’s raining right now; I wonder where she is.
I’m excited to leave tomorrow and I think all the rest of my team is too. I’ve had to surrender a lot of expectations and attempt at control because I know being on the field is going to be completely unpredictable and they’ve tried to imitate that here at camp. Honestly, not knowing what’s going on makes the days feel really long, but ultimately it’s been good and God has a lot in store.

“No one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life.”
                                Luke 18:29-30
